Advanced automation drives the development of the automobile industry in Vietnam
Vietnam’s automobile industry is inferior to those of other countries in the region. The domestic automobile industry was founded in the late 20th century; while in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the industry has been developed since the 1960s. Therefore, the domestic automobile industry is facing many challenges coming from the fierce competition of foreign rivals.
VinFast is the pioneering enterprise with the mission to bring Vietnam’s automobile products to the international market. Due to the common features of heavy industries, all stages of automobile manufacturing process include the participation of robots and machines. To catch up with the developing speed of regional countries and fulfill the ambition of completing production procedure in the shortest time-frame, VinFast has invested in building a state-of-the-art automation system.

VinFast automobile factory works towards the model of smart 4.0 factory, world-class scale and modernity. At the same time, VinFast is also the first car maker in Vietnam to have a complete, synchronized, and automated production line with 6 sub-factories including stamping shop, body shop, painting shop, engine shop, auxiliary shop, and assembly shop.
These shops are connected and automated with thousands of ABB robots, equipped with smart production operation systems of Siemens and SAP. For efficient use of equipment and taking full advantage of the technological strengths, automation solutions must also be well-designed to suit VinFast’s development strategy.

ATTS Vietnam (Autotech) is a leading automation service provider in Vietnam with expertise and experience in designing technical solutions for many domestic and international automobile manufacturers. We are honored to contribute to the success of VinFast, the first car brand in Vietnam.
From May of 2019, ATTS team were working with Hirotec India at VinFast Body Shop to set up Scada system (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition), PLC & Robot commissioning (ABB IRB 6700, IRB 7600), follow high standard of FFT German to manufacture front door, rear door, side door, hood and liftgate of its very first car models in Vietnam, the Sedan named VinFast LUX A2.0 and the SUV named VinFast LUX SA2.0.

In January 2020, Hirotec & ATTS successfully handed over to Vinfast with an impressive result, the production line met at least 40 sets of car doors per hour of production. According to the plan, the design capacity of phase 1 is expected to meet 250,000 vehicles per year with a production rate of 38 vehicles per hour. With the optimal automation solutions implemented by ATTS Vietnam (Autotech), the productivity of VinFast Body Shop has exceeded expectation, successfully raising the overall productivity of the whole factory, accelerating the launching process of Vietnamese branded car products.

With less than 2 years of construction and completion, VinFast automobile factory set an incredible schedule. This is a pride not only for VinGroup but also for the automobile industry in Vietnam. In other words, VinFast has paved the way for the remarkable development of the national automobile industry.
The day that VinFast LUX SA2.0 rolled off the assembly line in Hai Phong marked an important milestone in the production process of Vietnamese branded vehicles. The shell has a luxurious, strong yet still neat design, which can be comparable to international brand products, and is characterized by the unique V-logo.
