ATTS Vietnam and successful projects: Spot welding at AAPICO – VinFast factory
Spot welding is the perfect work for automation application because this is the manufacturing stage that requires accuracy and is considered a highly hazardous job for human labor. ATTS Vietnam (Autotech) is honored to provide automation design, commissioning and programming solutions, successfully optimizing the welding process at AAPICO – VinFast factory.
Why automate spot welding with robots?
Spot welding or resistance spot welding is one of the oldest welding methods, in which welds are not performed continuously on the entire contact surface but only performed in separate points called welding points. This welding process is mainly used to weld two or more metal sheets of the same material or even sheets of different material together without the use of any filler materials.
Spot welding technology plays an important role in industrial production, which is widely used in many fields such as automobile, aerospace, railway, metal furniture, electronics, etc. The advantage of this method is that it can be performed in a complex welding position and small points.
Spot welding is the perfect work for automation application because this is the manufacturing stage that requires accuracy and is considered a highly hazardous job for human labor. Welders are often exposed to environments with loud noises, toxic gases; besides, their work requires good physical strength to carry large-volume metal sheets and heavy welding machines. To ensure productivity for industries such as car manufacturing, it is necessary to have a team of skilled welders. However, employing a large team with uniform skills is very difficult.
Spot welding is the typical application of automation in automobile manufacturing industry
In the manufacturing process of a car, up to 5.000 welding points are performed. For such a large number, the use of robotics and automation is a must. Automated spot welding offers a multitude of benefits to the automobile industry. Specifically, the spot-welding robot has fast speed, is able to create closed and uniform points with high productivity. Moreover, welding current, time, and pressure value can be easily programmed by a computer. Welding robots can weld even very small details and contribute to the reduced possibility of deformation and faulty welds.
Spot welding is often used in the process of framing to increase reliability and safety, and reduce noise when using. In the past, the programming and commissioning of spot-welding robots were done manually. Today, thanks to the development of technical technology, welding can be programmed offline via computers without causing disruption, resulting in optimized production lines. This also reduces production costs for businesses.
ATTS Vietnam and AAPICO built optimal spot welding system for VinFast
Autotech Services & Technical Solutions (ATTS), one of the leading companies in providing automation services and technical solutions, is proud to contribute to launching the first car products brand in Vietnam.
Industrial spot welding is not a new technology, but automating it is not a simple process and contains many risks including high investment cost for equipment and large machine systems as well as the demands for skilled technicians. ATTS engineers worked from April 2019 to October 2019 at AAPICO Shop at VinFast factory (Hai Phong) to commission, program, upgrade, and follow robotic welding systems.
ATTS has finished mechanical and electrical installation; offline PLC programming and modifying at site; upgrading PLC programs during the optimization phase of FFT; PLC dry run test and production standby support, robot teaching, modifying, configuration and calibration; robot dry run test and production standby support. All have been tested and confirmed in accordance with the international standards of AAPICO and the quality requirements of VinFast.
ATTS’ excellent engineers are pleased to provide VinFast and AAPICO with design solutions in automation commissioning and programming, successfully optimizing the welding process, shortening the production time of VinFast cars.
